Rules

Show, hide, force or reprice answers based on what the buyer already picked.

Rules keep a customizer from offering combinations you cannot build. Each rule has a condition and one or more actions. While the condition matches, the actions apply.

Conditions

Pick a question, an operator and, where needed, answers:

Operator Matches when
is the answer is selected (for multiple choice: is one of the selected answers)
is not the answer is not selected
is any of one of the listed answers is selected
is filled in a text question has text, or a choice question has any answer

Group conditions with all (every condition must match) or any (at least one), and nest groups for more complex logic. A condition can refer to a question before or after the one it affects.

A condition on a hidden question behaves as if that question had no answer.

Actions

Action Effect
Hide question The question disappears and loses its answer
Hide answer One answer disappears; if it was selected, it is removed
Force answer Selects an answer (replaces it on single choice, adds it on multiple choice)
Set price A different price for an answer, or for a text question when filled in

How rules are applied

Rules run top to bottom, then again, until nothing changes. Hiding always wins over selecting: if one rule forces an answer and another hides it, it stays hidden. If rules keep switching each other back and forth, publishing stops and tells you which ones loop.

The same rules run in three places: the builder in the browser, the checkout function and our backend. They give the same result everywhere, so the price the buyer sees is the price they pay and the order shows the same answers.

Examples

Show paddle colors only with paddles. Condition: PADDLES is not Yes. Action: hide question PADDLE COLOR.

Engraving is half price in the gift bundle. Condition: BUNDLE is Gift set. Action: set price of ENGRAVING to 5.00.

No coral lining with a black sole. Condition: SOLE is Black. Action: hide answer Coral collar lining in EXTRAS. This is the rule in the live demo.

Order of rules

Drag rules to change their order. Order only matters when two rules set the price of the same answer; the later one wins.
