Orders and production data
What a configured order contains, design images, production sheets, the Orders page, uploads, order rules and the cart line summary.
When an order with a configured product comes in, Moddify Studio links each line to its saved design, freezes the design with the customizer version it was made with, re-checks the price, renders the design images and adds your order rules. Everything below happens within seconds of the order being placed.
On the cart line
The buyer sees a readable summary on the cart line, in the cart, checkout and order confirmation. Choose how much in Settings, Summary shown on the cart line:
| Setting | Example |
|---|---|
| None | No summary, only the product title |
| Short | Design: Forest / Gum / Coral / Reflective heel tab |
| Full | One line per question: UPPER: Forest, SOLE: Gum, ... |
Hidden properties starting with an underscore (_cm_design_id, _cm_sel, _cm_ver) link the line to its design. Themes do not show them to buyers.
On the order
- Metafield
moddify.designs: a JSON list with, for every configured line, the design id, the summary, the production data and the design image URLs. - Production data: for each question, the order key and the production code of the chosen answer (or the text the buyer typed), in question order. This is what your workshop builds from.
- Tags: from your order rules, plus
cm-price-mismatchif the price re-check failed andcm-upload-pendingwhile uploads wait for review.
Design images
Our server renders every design: one WebP image per view and a thumbnail, stacked exactly like the buyer's preview, with their text and pictures in the print areas. Each image has a stable link that keeps working if the design is rendered again. The links are in the order metafield, the REST API and webhooks.
The Orders page
Orders in the app lists every customized order. Filter by customizer, by an answer it contains, by date or by order name, and export the list to CSV. An order's page shows each design with its images, production codes, text and uploads.
Production sheets
Select one order or several on the Orders page and open the production sheet: a printable page per item with the design images, the production codes in question order, the buyer's text and their uploads. Print it, or save it as PDF from the browser's print dialog.
You can change what the sheet shows under Settings → Production sheet:
- Paper size (A4 or US Letter), and one item per page or a compact layout where items follow each other.
- Design images: every view, only the first one, or none, in small, medium or large.
- The production table: production codes, option names, or both side by side.
- Keys to leave off the table, for example a gift wrap question the workshop doesn't need.
- Whether to show uploaded pictures and the order note.
- Your own text under the header and at the bottom, such as "Built by ______ Checked by ______".
Buyer uploads
The original file a buyer uploads is kept untouched for production; the builder and the design images use a resized copy. Download originals from the order page through a private link.
To check pictures before you produce them, turn on Review uploaded pictures before production in Settings. Orders with unreviewed uploads get the tag cm-upload-pending until you approve or reject each picture on the order page. Contact the buyer yourself if you reject one.
Uploads are kept for 365 days after the order by default. Uploads of designs that were never ordered are deleted after 30 days, and files that were never attached to a design after 24 hours.
Order rules
Order rules are part of the Pro and Plus plans. They add a tag when an order contains a specific choice. Set them up in Settings, Order rules:
| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| Rule name | Same-day assembly |
| Question key | ASSEMBLY TIME |
| Answer value | SAME DAY ASSEMBLY |
| Order tag | same-day-assembly |
Rules work across all customizers that use the same question key. Use the tags to filter your order list, trigger a Shopify Flow, or route orders in your fulfillment tool.
Frozen designs
A design is frozen when its order is placed. Editing or republishing the customizer later never changes what an existing order says, because the order points to the exact version it was made with.
Cancelled orders
When an order is cancelled, its designs are marked as cancelled. The REST API reports the new status and the order.cancelled webhook fires.
